Stars and Stripes Ring Toss
Materials:
- 3 12" long x 3/4" diameter dowel rods
- 6 sturdy dessert-sized paper plates
- Red, white, and blue craft paint
- White or silver star-shaped stickers
- Craft scissors
- Piece of Styrofoam
- Newspaper
Directions:
- Spread some of the newspaper over your work area.
- Using the craft scissors, carefully cut out the center of each of the dessert-sized paper plates, leaving 2" rings.
- Let kids help you paint 3 of the paper plate rings blue and the remaining 3 red.
- Allow the paint to dry.
- Once the paint on the paper plate rings has dried, let your toddler help you apply the star-shaped stickers around the edge of each of the rings.
- Press one end of each of the dowel rods about 1/2" into the piece of Styrofoam.
- Let kids help you paint each of the dowel rods white. Allow the paint to dry.
- Once the paint on the dowel rods has dried, add a red or blue spiraling stripe to each of the rods from top to bottom. Once the paint has dried, remove the rods from the piece of Styrofoam.
- Take the completed dowel rods and paper plate rings outside.
- Press each of the dowel rods into the ground, placing them approximately 3' apart.
- Show the kids how to aim and toss one of the rings to try to get it to land on one of the rods.
