The Doorway's a Stage!
Materials:
- spring-tension curtain rod to fit a doorway
- old sheet, tablecloth, beach towel, or shower curtain
- scissors
- sewing machine (optional, for adults)
- rubber bands, ribbon, or string
- items to decorate (optional)
- newspapers
- fabric pens
- glue paints (tacky glue + tempera paints mixed together)
- paintbrushes
Directions:
- Cut the sheet (or tablecloth, etc) to twice the width of a door.
- If desired, sew a simple casing along the top edge to fit the tension rod.
- Otherwise, you can drape the sheet over the rod.
- If you wish to decorate the curtain, cover a table with newspapers.
- Spread the fabric on the papers.
- Decorate with glue paints and fabric pens.
- Fabric pens work well for outlines. Fill in with paintbrushes and glue paint.
- Dry completely.
- Hang the curtain on the tension rod in a doorway.
- Let puppeteers crawl behind the curtain and put on a show!
- To store, release the tension in the rod and roll fabric around the rod.
- Tie into place with a rubber band, ribbon, or string. Slip onto a shelf or closet until needed again.
