Tie-Dye Eggs

Materials:

  1. Old newspaper
  2. Paper towels
  3. Water
  4. Vinegar
  5. Plastic wrap
  6. Old shirts or art aprons
  7. Boiled eggs
  8. Assorted colors of food coloring

Directions:

  1. Cover the area you will be working with old newspaper.
  2. For each egg, take a paper towel and dampen with water and vinegar. (The paper towel needs to be damp, not wet.)
  3. Place a square of plastic wrap on the newspaper.
  4. Place the damp paper towel flat on top of the plastic wrap.
  5. Put on an old shirt or apron to protect clothing.
  6. Drip small drops of food coloring onto the paper towel. When you drop different colors next to each other, they will bleed into the paper towel and mix to make new colors. Cover enough of the paper towel that the food coloring will cover the egg.
  7. Wrap the plastic wrap and paper towel over the egg.
  8. Let dye soak into the egg. The longer you keep the egg wrapped, the brighter the egg will get.
