Ingredients (homes):

  • 2 lb. 12 oz. (raw weight) ground beef/turkey, cooked
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 48 grams (weight) brown sugar (about 1/2 cup)
  • 1 Tablespoon + 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon EACH salt, onion powder, and garlic powder
  • 544 grams ketchup (about 2 cups)
  • 12 buns, at least 1 ounce (weight) each

Ingredients (centers):

  • 11 pounds (raw weight) ground beef/turkey, cooked
  • 2 cups water
  • 192 grams (weight) brown sugar (about 1 cup)
  • 80 grams (weight) mustard, about 1/4 cup + 1 Tablespoon + 1 teaspoon
  • 1 Tablespoon EACH salt, onion powder and garlic powder OR to taste
  • 2176 grams ketchup (about 2 quarts)
  • 48 buns, at least 1 ounce (weight) each

Directions:

  1. Mix all ingredients in a pot (or electric roaster). Bring to a boil. Cover.
  2. Simmer on low, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Portion 1/3 cup (#12 scoop) on each bun.

Serve:

1 sandwich = 2 oz. eq. meat + 1 oz. eq. grain
Use whole wheat buns/rolls to count as your whole grain for the day.
